Cold Steel Boar Spear Review

The choices for a good hunting spear are not vast, but that doesn’t mean that great spears do not exist. Cold Steel’s Boar Spear is a perfect example of a quality hunting spear that can and will stand the test of time.

When choosing a spear there are two main components to consider: the handle or shaft and the the actual spear tip. Both need to be made of quality parts that help make the spear itself strong and dependable.

The Boar Spear’s handle is made of American Ash and the spear head itself is steel. But we are not talking about normal steel. This is Cold Steel steel; a company that has built a reputation creating amazing knives.

The steel used for this spear is SK-5 medium carbon steel and interestingly enough is meant to flex and not break in tough conditions.

The spear head itself is a whopping 18” long and is followed by two side prongs that make this spear a true “boar spear”. In a traditional spear, the spear head flows straight back to the handle meaning that the spear can go directly through the target without stopping. However, with a boar spear the prongs on the side of the spear head stop the spear from going through its target.

But, lets be honest, with an 18” spear tip…there is still plenty of spear going into the target even with the prongs.

The overall length of the spear is slightly over 82” and weighs just 4 and a half pounds making the Boar Spear a perfect candidate for accurate throwing.

It has a traditional look combined with a steel tip forged with modern technology. This spear is a great choice for the hunter, survivalist, or collector.
